MUSCLE-POWERED PUBLIC LAND USERS BANDING TOGETHER TO WORK FOR RESPONSIBLE LAND STEWARDSHIP AND USE

Welcome to Palisades!

Purpose:
Our primary goal is stewardship of the entire Rimrock/Palisades/Indian Canyon area, including all public lands within the approximate boundaries of Sunset Hwy on the South, Riverside State Park on the North and East, and Airway Heights on the West.

This will include trail planning and maintenance, park advocacy with regard to City Parks issues, involvement with the various agencies assisting in fire management, periodic cleanup activities, and a helpful, watchdog approach to all park users -- i.e. friendly toward non-trashers, non-poachers, non-dealers.

In addition, to assist other user groups in working toward accomplishment of their goals within other areas to enhance muscle-powered use, whether by help with marketing/grant writing/funding or physical help with trail work and building projects.

Finally, to spread the teachings of the "Leave No Trace" Outdoor Ethics program, both within our own area and by reaching out to other user groups to help work toward having clean, sustainable public lands everywhere.

We hope you'll join us.

Project: Reclamation of Sandpits
Description: Assist with reclamation of the sandpit area, including land sculpturing and revegetation, to return this area to it's original state; leaving a parking area below in the level area inside the higher green gate to allow for truck-and-trailer parking for scheduled large user group activities.

RE: Planting efforts at South Gate Indian Canyon and Greenwood Road Gate

Taylor,

We received all plants, stakes, and nets ordered from Plants of the Wild per inventory taken before starting the project, with leftovers noted within the tables included in this memo. Our Palisades Neighborhood planting efforts on Saturday, November 10th involved a total of 10 people. The effort involved moving compost to the site, cultivating the compacted soil, and planting. Our estimate of in-kind labor is as follows:

Tractor Operator
site cultivation; log barrier placement
2 visits to sites @ $150.00 per visit $300.00
Delivery of Compost Materials 4 loads @ $10.00 40.00
Planting 7 people, 6.5 hours @ $10.00/hour 455.00
Planting 2 people, 3.0 hours @ $10.00/hour 60.00
Reclamation Planning and Plant Order 1 person, 4 hours @ $50.00 200.00
TOTAL $1055.00

We did not quite complete the project, as we ran out of daylight. The excess plants, as listed in the following tables as 'LEFTOVER', are potted and resting in my home nursery until spring when we will finish the job at the Greenwood Road berm. Likewise, the leftover stakes and plant nets are at my home also. All fescue seed was disbursed. Please advise if you would like to take possession of these items.
