Welcome to Palisades!
Purpose:
Our primary goal is stewardship of the entire Rimrock/Palisades/Indian Canyon area, including all public lands within the approximate boundaries of Sunset Hwy on the South, Riverside State Park on the North and East, and Airway Heights on the West.
This will include trail planning and maintenance, park advocacy with regard to City Parks issues, involvement with the various agencies assisting in fire management, periodic cleanup activities, and a helpful, watchdog approach to all park users -- i.e. friendly toward non-trashers, non-poachers, non-dealers.
In addition, to assist other user groups in working toward accomplishment of their goals within other areas to enhance muscle-powered use, whether by help with marketing/grant writing/funding or physical help with trail work and building projects.
Finally, to spread the teachings of the "Leave No Trace" Outdoor Ethics program, both within our own area and by reaching out to other user groups to help work toward having clean, sustainable public lands everywhere.
We hope you'll join us. |

Mike reports he and Chris Hicks have been looking into the commercial interest in Palisades. They see a lot of benefits in joining the west plains chamber of commerce. Mike communicated with Terry Liberty in city planning and Carol Bell at the West Plains Chamber of Commerce. For $50.00 the Palisades organization can join the C of C. This will be recommended to the general membership at the next meeting. Phase II county planning was discussed . Steve Davenport states that there will be a public forum on this providing there is sufficient interest. Robbi stated that zoning changes triggers a county notice to Palisades
The Outreach Work group is exploring putting together a database that lists names and addresses with parcel numbers. They are also working on a brochure that could be presented to new residents of Palisades.
Susan Dar of the Transportation and Trails work group, chaired by Karen Stevenson are working on the problem of dumping on private lands.
Discussion of collector roads occurred. The County has designated Greenwood to Grove and Grove to Highway 2 as collector roads. No road designation changes are immediately anticipated. There is a need and Karen will create signs to inform folks of park areas and areas of non motorized vehicle use.
Craig is working with Bob Schlim on water issues. He feels we should become involved and with the West Plains Water Protection Council. Mike reports that he is involved in monitoring static levels of wells in his area and they have seen no evidence of water depletion at the 65-95 foot level.
Robbi reported that Sam Moeller with the Thorp neighborhood inquired about trail connectivity to the Palisades area and that we will work with them to try to provide connections.
Some update information was given on the Independent Mortgage Property. The buildings have been taken down over the past week. The appraisal process is proceeding.
The city will be the recipient of conservation futures purchase of this property if and when that occurs.
Robbi announced that the board will be reviewing and updating the bylaws of the organization.
