Welcome to Palisades!
Purpose:
Our primary goal is stewardship of the entire Rimrock/Palisades/Indian Canyon area, including all public lands within the approximate boundaries of Sunset Hwy on the South, Riverside State Park on the North and East, and Airway Heights on the West.
This will include trail planning and maintenance, park advocacy with regard to City Parks issues, involvement with the various agencies assisting in fire management, periodic cleanup activities, and a helpful, watchdog approach to all park users -- i.e. friendly toward non-trashers, non-poachers, non-dealers.
In addition, to assist other user groups in working toward accomplishment of their goals within other areas to enhance muscle-powered use, whether by help with marketing/grant writing/funding or physical help with trail work and building projects.
Finally, to spread the teachings of the "Leave No Trace" Outdoor Ethics program, both within our own area and by reaching out to other user groups to help work toward having clean, sustainable public lands everywhere.
We hope you'll join us. |

Area Arsonist Arrested
A 53 year old West Plains woman was arrested Tuesday evening for a Monday night arson fire in the 5300 block of West Sunset Highway. The blaze was set in close proximity to heavy timber, buinesses and residences.
Carol J. Holoburdo was booked into the Spokane County Jail on a single count of Second-Degree Arson.
On Monday, Off-duty Fire District 10 firefighter Cameron Bergin saw Haloburdo walking into wooded area from Sunset Blvd. he recongnized her based on previous contacts with her in his role as a firefighter.
About 16 minutes later, units from his fire district were dispatched to a wild land fire at the same location. Among bystanders watching crews extinguish the blaze was Halobrudo.
Hearing the fire dispatched, Sheriff's sergeant Jim Gladden responded and was the first to arrive at the fire. He saw grass and timber burning, and after consulting with Bergin interviewed Haloburdo about the fire. After lenghty discussion. Gladden determined that the woman had started the fire with a single paper match. He decided Haloburdo needed pyschological evaluation and waslking her a partol car when a book of paper matches missing a single match from from her blouse.
During his investigation Monday night, Spokane County Fire Investigator Ed Bolyard eliminated all natural and accidnetal causes for the fire and concluded it was an arson fire.
Tuesday evening, Gladden learned that Haloburdo had been released fron the hospital and dipatched Deputy Tyler Smith to arrest the suspect on the arson count.
Haloburdo was arrested for a similar arson fire last summer and was later convicted of Reckless Burning. The fire occured in an larea where at least nine other suspicious fires were set last summer.
