Wildlife

Palisades: A line of very steep cliffs, usually along a river. Palisades Park was formed approximately 17 million years ago by the titanic lava flows that occured in this area. The Palisades were formed primarily by the Grande Rhonde and Priest River flows. During the last ice age the Palisades were shaped by the Missoula floods that tore down the Purcell Trench to develop the landscape that we see now. This occurred 40 to 50 times and the Palisades were submerged under approximately 200 ft of water traveling at 60 miles per hour.
